ORIGINAL MUSIC

I’ve been writing songs since I was a kid. I recorded my first “real album” of original music around the year 2000. And I’ve been writing and recording ever since. These days it’s interesting for me to look back at all of those songs that have accumulated over the years and see how they create a kind of artistic biography—a creative record of the trajectory of my intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual life across time.

I love having the opportunity to share those songs with whomever might want to listen. And that can happen in two ways:

You can find lots of my recorded music in the usual online spots. Or if you’re truly old school, you can purchase an actual physical CD from me at one of my shows. I’ve not had enough demand for vinyl at this point to justify the cost of pressing any. But I might some day…
Speaking of shows, that’s the other way I get to share my music with you. It’s always a privilege to sing and tell my own stories in front of a live audience, whether that’s on a big stage or in somebody’s living room for a house show. I also enjoy putting my own spin on other people’s songs. You can find a few of my covers on Youtube and I usually throw in one or two in my original sets. But you can also see me doing covers live in a band setting with some killer local Indianapolis musicians.

the nauti yachtys & OTHER COVER BANDS

The Nauti Yachtys covers what has in recent years come to be referred to as “yacht rock”. “What is yacht rock?” you ask. Well… it’s complicated. It’s something like this: Music from the late 70’s and early 80’s with really polished production that doesn’t rock too hard and often has a little bit of groove and soulfulness to it. Think Doobie Brothers, Hall & Oates, Toto, Steely Dan… It’s the stuff I remember listening to when I was rolling in the car with my mom when I was like 5 years old (dad tended to rock a little harder a lot of the time… but he got down to some of this stuff, too). We play public venues and private events.

Besides the Nauti Yachtys, I can put together pretty much any setup you need for wedding cocktail hours, receptions, corporate events, private parties. From solo acoustic to small ensemble to full band, from rock to folk to funk to country to soul to jazz….to whatever. music & ministry

This is definitely a “last, but not least” situation. In 2019, I came back to Christian faith after a couple of decades of questioning and wandering (you can read that whole story on the “writing” page of this website. That return to faith has involved revisiting a call to ministry that I received when I was in my late teens (another story that you can read on the “writing” page). Over the last several years, my focus has increasingly turned toward the promotion of Christian spiritual formation and discipleship through events, music, speaking, teaching, and media. In the summer of 2025, I started a nonprofit organization with my friend Tim Schoepf called RE•VISIONARY devoted to just that. It’s always a privilege and a joy to be able to share my story through word and song. I’ve done a handful of concerts at churches and church-related events over the past couple of years and would absolutely love to be doing more.
