Josh Kaufman has performed onstage his entire life. He comes from a musical family and began singing in church at an early age in the small town of Lake Wales, FL. He attended high school in Blacksburg, VA where he participated in multiple choirs and began writing and playing his own music. For the last 15 years or so, Kaufman has been a regular in the Indianapolis music scene, performing solo and with the band, The New Etiquette. He still resides in Indianapolis with his wife and three kids.
Kaufman writes music, plays guitar and sings. His music draws from a wide range of styles, including soul, pop, rock, funk and jazz. He has cited Stevie Wonder, Lenny Kravitz, and Jeff Buckley among his major influences.
In 2013, Kaufman auditioned for NBC’s TV show The Voice. He received a
coveted four-chair turn for his rendition of George Michael’s “One More Try” during his audition. He continued to wow the judges and audience with his soulful performances of contemporary and classic songs, from “All of Me” to “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours,” During the show, he worked with Usher and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine; he also sang duets with veteran musicians Usher and Robin Thicke. Kaufman’s biggest hits reached numbers 5, 4 and 2 on the iTunes music charts, and on May 20, 2014 he was crowned the Season 6 winner of The Voice.
Since winning The Voice, Kaufman has performed on NBC’s Today show, sat
in with The Roots on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, acted as Grand Marshal at the Indianapolis 500 Parade, joined current and former members of The Voice for a 31 city tour across the country and most recently served as the headliner for the Indy Jazz Fest, where he performed with a 15-piece band. He also performed at Usher’s 15th Anniversary Celebration of his New Look Foundation and impressed television audiences with his rendition of the National Anthem before the Colts-Eagles Monday Night Football Game on September 15, 2014.
Kaufman will play the lead role in the Broadway Musical Pippin from Nov. 4th 2014 to Jan. 4th 2015. He will also record his first single with Universal Music Group (Republic Records) to be released in late 2014 or early 2015.
